Writing

Green

In the foreground
palest new lilac leaves
bounce.
Behind, tiny ribbed birch leaves
delicately dance.
The elder’s compact sweeping branches
wimble, at their tips,
holding the dark green distance
resolutely.

A spray of rain percusses new leaves,
rebounds from hard earth
between rapidly growing green spikes.
A dark bird flutters away,
droplets form on the camera lens,
a gust sighs into the microphone
and in the background
cars sizzle past.
